Sponsors sought for SDA2024

Let's get the ball rolling early! The SDA's are a charity and could not exist without both entry fees and the sponsorship we receive. The sponsorship packages will be broadly similar for SDA2024 as they were for SDA2022. Entry Eligibility - Geographical Boundary

Entries for SDA2022 must fall within the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, which covers a total area of 3484 sqkm, home to a population of 1.8 million. It includes the entirety of the metropolitan county of South Yorkshire (including Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham), as well as North East Derbyshire, Derbyshire Dales, Bassetlaw, Chesterfield and Bolsover districts.

Entry Eligibility - Timing

The eligible period for SDA2022 was extended to allow for the cancelled 2020 event, scuppered by the Covid pandemic. Projects must have been completed between 1st June 2017 and 31st May 2022.

Sheffield Design Awards

The Sheffield Design Awards (SDAs) are a biennial event, with the awards ceremony to be held next in November 2022. There have been no SDAs since 2018, due to the pandemic. There has been much development in the city region in the intervening years so we are expecting a bumper crop of entries. Entry criteria have been adjusted to capture projects which would also have qualified under the affected 2020 awards. 

The Sheffield Design Awards were established for the benefit of the public and City of Sheffield and its region, with the following objectives:

​

1. To promote high standards of building and open spaces that have excellent architectural standards and make a substantial contribution to the local environment principally through the promotion of an Awards scheme.

2. To educate and inform the local population in the qualities of good planning and architecture which respect the needs of the public, as well as the concerns of planners, developers and users of significant buildings and open spaces in the area of benefit.

3. To encourage by publications, presentations and making awards the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of historic or public interest in the area of benefit.

Awards are given to buildings and open spaces that have high architectural standards and make a substantial contribution to the local environment. The Awards are made after a shortlist of nominated schemes is visited by a panel of invited judges and the Awards decided. The Award categories and winners in 2018 were:

• Medium Project Award - Site Gallery Expansion (DRDH Architects for The Site Gallery)

• Large Project Award - Albert Works (Cartwright Pickard for City Estates)

• Residential Award - Dam View (Robin Ashley Architects for Mr & Mrs Wells)

• Conservation Award - The Long Barn (Chiles, Evans and Care for Leo & Kate Care)

• Open Space Award - Leavygreave Plantables (Grant Associates / David Appleyard for The University of Sheffield and Sheffield City Council)

• Lifetime Achievement Award for Building in Use - The Peace Gardens

• People’s Choice Award - Chatsworth Birdhide (Peak Architects for the Chatsworth Trust)

• Outstanding Project Award - Albert Works (Cartwright Pickard for City Estates)
