Founded in 1887, the Sheffield Society of Architects (SSA) is the local branch of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for Sheffield, South Yorkshire and North-East Derbyshire.

SSA is a welcoming, member-led community that brings together architects, students, educators, and built environment professionals from across the region. Membership is free for RIBA members, employees of RIBA Chartered Practices, and architecture students, with all those interested in architecture and the built environment encouraged to get involved.

Led by a team of volunteers, SSA exists to support its members, champion great architecture and design, and create opportunities for people to connect, learn and share ideas. Through events, advocacy, professional development and community initiatives, the Society provides a platform for discussion about the future of our cities, towns and neighbourhoods, and the positive role architecture can play in shaping them.

Today, SSA's focus is on building a strong, connected architecture community through an inclusive programme of talks, socials, awards, site visits and collaborative projects. From students taking their first steps into practice to experienced professionals helping shape the future of the region, SSA provides opportunities to learn, contribute and be part of the conversation.​
